The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I

Hollywood, CA

CD207, aka Ariel, to her friends, leaves Hollywood Friday morning to resume her illustrious East Coast concert career at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
I thought to make the most of our last moments together, recording on Ariel the complete Well-Tempered Clavier. These past three days we recorded all of Book I.
I couldn’t have asked for a more astonishingly appropriate benediction for our final session.
I had just finished the 12-tone b minor Fugue. Bach marks a fermata on the last chord and another on the final double bar line. He appends to this S.D.G. Soli Deo gloria – Glory to God. I felt the reverence as extension to the fermatas.
After a brief meditative pause, my clock struck 12.
