On Gunther Schuller‘s recommendation, I’ve been making my way through some of the more exquisite character pieces of Cyril Scott. I’ve performed a number of them as break-pieces on From the Top broadcasts, all of which are available at other posts on this site.
I was saving Lotus-land for Aspen, as I’m sure it counts as the first un-ironic (post-Legalisation) performance of the piece in the state of Colorado.
It was an idyllic Colorado week, our From the Top taping at Harris Concert Hall in Aspen sandwiched by a few days even higher at Edwards, CO, on 4 (count ’em, 4) Steinway concert grands, including without doubt the greatest Concert D I’ve touched (they’re just making them better than ever right now, folks. Stock up.) at the home of my friends, Peter and Cathy.
Didn’t want to ever leave.
Stream of the performance, the halftime sorbet between the always extraordinary young performers, below. The show uplinks October 6.
Never miss out on Christopher’s events or special notices.
